“Global Education for Lasting Peace”.
It is the sixth International Day of Education and will be celebrated under the theme “learning for lasting peace”. With a surge of violence, an alarming rise of discrimination, racism and xenophobia as well as climate change negatively impacting education, the UNESCO calls for an active commitment to peace. Education is a catalyst for learners to be empowered as agents of peace in their communities, providing them with the necessary knowledge, values, attitudes, skills and behaviours.
Looking closely at the nexus of education, peace and topics, such as attacks on education and climate change, the IFGE invites to explore a way forward in 2024.
